April is Celebrate Diversity Month, and we thought it would be the perfect time to profile the members of Digital Additive’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion team. Members of the team involved in talent acquisition strive to create a space where a broad mix of talented people are in an ideal position to bring their whole selves to the table and do their best work. Each month, the team works together to send an internal agency-wide email celebrating different cultural or demographic holidays and events. This month, let’s find out more about what drives each participant to engage with DEI topics, what they bring to the team, and how Digital Additive is unique in our approach.

Why did you choose to be a part of Digital Additive’s DEI team?

Both personally and professionally DEI has always been very important to me. I grew up in a city where I was excluded from certain places and events because of my religion. It was a part of life and something that we just dealt with, but I was also raised to recognize the importance of inclusion and education around what Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion really means. So having experienced being excluded on a personal level it is extremely important to me to be a part of a company that not only has a true passion for DEI, but also recognizes we can do more to continue to attract a diverse candidate applicant base. — Sheri, Sr. Talent Acquisition Manager

DEI is very important to me on many levels. I chose to be a part of this team because I saw that Digital Additive embraced diversity. I sensed it. I asked about DEI in every round of interviews. At the end of the day, I will be involved in DEI and Women’s Rights initiatives wherever I am employed. But to land at Digital Additive and be actively involved in DEI is a major PLUS. — Brandie, Account Director

How have you brought your own unique interests or skillset to the team?

One of the things that makes Digital Additive unique is the diversity of our team members; whether diverse backgrounds, education, family, language, or hobbies, we each bring something special to the team. Personally, I believe I bring my awareness of various cultures, openness, and eagerness to learn to the team. I truly believe when you listen to understand, you can break down barriers and make a space for everyone to be themselves. — Thrisa, People Operations Director

As a writer, one of my greatest assets is my curiosity and eagerness to understand different points of view and experiences. I genuinely love the opportunity to do a bit of research and deep dive into the history and traditions of different cultures and events. I also love the opportunity to create mutually beneficial content, such as our Favorite Books by Black Authors post, purchases from which support a local, Black-owned bookstore. — Kimmy, Senior Copywriter

What is your favorite thing the team has done so far?

I’m really proud of DA’s commitment to The A-Pledge and the Salesforce Talent Alliance as well as the openness and participation the Hiring Managers have taken in re-drafting our job posts to ensure we are attracting a diverse candidate base. Also, I appreciate their embracing me when I present an out-of-the-box candidate. There are so many different characteristics that can make up a diverse environment, and I value that team members recognize and value those qualities. — Sheri

Honestly the favorite thing we have done thus far is simply to put DEI initiatives in place. This team has grown by leaps and bounds. Additionally, every single member of our team is truly excited to be a part of this initiative. And for that, it makes me even more excited about our growth and plans. — Brandie

How do you feel DEI efforts are unique at Digital Additive?

I’m not sure what other companies do to highlight DEI efforts, but I like that our efforts are crowd-sourced. We’re a small team that’s divided across a variety of departments and we’re all putting in the time to put the content together and writing on topics we’re familiar with or not so familiar with! So DA gets to hear from a cross-section of our voices, I think that’s really cool. — Katie, Campaign Analyst

I am not sure they are necessarily unique. However, they are top of mind and embraced. I knew the first time I interviewed with DA that there was a strong commitment to DEI. Every day I continue to see that. I am so grateful that during our brief hiring pause I was able to take the time to educate and implement a DEI Strategic Plan. I am so proud of what we together have accomplished, but know there is a lot more to do. — Sheri

I feel the DEI efforts are unique because we are a mighty team of many yet I still feel the passion of this team. We have a plan. We have a roadmap. And we make it happen. We are dedicated to sharing differences and experiences while truly embracing all. — Brandie

I think what sets DA’s DEI efforts apart is an effort to make sure the work is meaningful and not just empty lip service. In an industry that can be self-congratulatory or self-serving, we focus instead on growing and learning and asking where we can be of service. — Kimmy
