Operations Specialist, Alex Fan, recently obtained his Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification and reflected on his experience, what helped him feel prepared, and why certification is important to him.
What did you find most helpful when preparing for your certification?
Talking through any questions I had with a study group. Our varying perspectives allowed us to efficiently discuss and answer each other’s questions.
What resources did you turn to as you prepared?
Salesforce Certification Days are incredibly helpful and thorough as the instructor leads you through the entire breakdown of the exam and also provides you with practice questions. Another helpful resource was taking the practice test by Salesforce, which has a similar breakdown and format to the actual exam. Lastly, help.salesforce.com is a great source for detailed definitions and examples of all things Salesforce.
What advice would you give to other people seeking certification?
In addition to taking notes while studying, be sure to attend study groups and ask MANY questions! Study groups are comprised of individuals with different experiences and knowledge bases. This is especially beneficial for getting your questions discussed and answered, and you can also test your own knowledge by answering any questions you might know.
How is DA’s certification prep unique?
From my experience, DA’s certification prep is unique because of how relevant it is to my everyday work. Oftentimes in our DA study groups, examples from real-life work situations would be used to explain and help us understand the content. This creates a study environment where everyone relates to each other’s experiences and can contribute to the discussion.
Why do you feel certification is important?
Having worked at DA for over a year now, obtaining this certification is an accomplishment that makes me feel proud and capable regarding what I have learned during my time at DA. The content of the exam is relevant to my everyday responsibilities, and gaining the certification is a great confidence-boosting milestone!
How has your approach to or outlook on work changed now that you’re certified?
Studying for the exam has helped me gain knowledge in areas of Salesforce Marketing Cloud that I would otherwise not be as familiar with. It has also shown me how wide-ranging DA and SFMC capabilities are and helped me understand that with time and effort, I’m able to build my knowledge and become a better asset to my team.
